Swensons Galley Boy is headed to New York for a month to be served up at SoHo burger joint
New Yorkers are about to get a taste of Akron.
The SoHo burger restaurant Hamburger America is adding an iconic Akron burger to its menu.
The diner has announced that the Swensons Galley Boy will be its Monthly Burger Special for March. Hamburger America is adding the Swensons Galley Boy to its menu for the of March.

The diner’s founder George Motz started the monthly special “to honor icons across the country that embody the diverse regional styles of the beloved hamburger.”
Past burger honorees have included the Butter Burger, the Olive Burger, the Chester, the Theta, No. 5 Special, The Doodleburger, the Krabby Patty, the Steamed Cheeseburg, the Green Chile Cheeseburger and Ben’s Chili Cheeseburger.
Swensons has long been a staple drive-in burger place in Akron.
It dates to the 1930s when Wesley “Pop” Swenson began flipping burgers and selling them out of the back of his car near Buchtel High School.
The original car hop is still open on South Hawkins near Market Street, but there are other locations in North Akron, Stow, Copley and now in other Northeast Ohio cities, as well as Columbus and Cincinnati.
The legendary Galley Boy is a double cheeseburger that comes with two special sauces on a toasted bun and garnished with a green olive on a toothpick.
